MOV Drone Workz Deer Recovery FAQ
Welcome to the MOV Drone Workz Deer Recovery FAQ page! Here, we've compiled answers to some of the most common questions about our deer recovery services using thermal drones. Whether you're curious about the detection capabilities of our technology, the impact of environmental factors, or how to get in touch with us, you'll find all the essential information you need. If you have further questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to our team.
How does thermal imaging work?
Thermal imaging detects heat emitted by living organisms or objects and displays it as a visual image, with warmer areas appearing brighter. Our advanced drones use thermal cameras to locate heat signatures, making it possible to spot downed deer, even in low light or dense terrain. This technology is precise and efficient, allowing us to identify targets quickly.
Can you provide this service in West Virginia?
Unfortunately, current laws in West Virginia prohibit the use of drones for locating downed deer. While we hope for legislative changes in the future, we currently offer our services in Ohio and other areas where it is legal.
Can you fly over private property?
Laws regarding drone flights over private property vary by state. At MOV Drone Workz, we prioritize privacy and never fly over private property without permission. Our team wears high-visibility gear and maintains a professional presence while in the field. Property owners are always welcome to watch the search live on our external monitor for transparency.
How long after death can deer still be detected using thermal drones?
Deer can retain heat signatures for varying periods depending on factors like temperature and weather conditions. Typically, deer can be detected up to 48+ hours after death, and in some cases, even up to 5 days after being shot.
How soon can I get the service?
Delivery times depend on your location. Please text or call us at 740-434-7699 when you fill out our Search Request Form, and we’ll get to you as quickly as possible.
Can heavy tree cover affect the search?
Yes, dense tree cover can obstruct visibility and make locating deer more challenging. While it’s still possible to find them, the process may take longer as pilots need to scan the area from multiple angles. However, this is mostly an issue in the early weeks of the season. Once the leaves drop, our visibility improves dramatically, allowing us to locate deer quickly and efficiently. The skill and experience of our pilots ensure the best possible results in any conditions.

What if the deer is shot but not dead?
If the deer is mortally wounded and suffering, we recommend contacting your local game warden authority for guidance. In situations where the deer is not found dead, you can resume the hunt the following day under state hunting regulations.
